Christmas around the World21 January 2026 (by Jayde Cotton (jcotton)) |
Before the Winter break, Year 5 explored how Christmas was celebrated around the world! Some of us wanted to conduct research on how Christmas is celebrated in Japan, and we were very fascinated by what we found out!
We found out that in Japan, people make / buy sponge cake that are decorated with whipped cream and strawberries, and that they also buy and have KFC! We found that they do this to represent the colours red and white as symbolic Christmas colours, which also matches with the colours presented on the Japanese flag.
We also loved the story of Babushka, which refers to Biblical events of the Christmas story in a magical way.
