Maths in Year 521 January 2026 (by Jayde Cotton (jcotton)) |
We have been learning about area in Year 5.
In Maths, we had to make a square metre: some of us were given paper that had to be cut down; some of us were given pieces of paper that we had to stick together. We were given a metre stick to help us. When we had made our square metre, our teacher checked that the measurements were correct and then we were given a space that we had to measure and find its area e.g. the corridor, the hall the ICT room. In the hall, one group began moving their square metre along square by square to then add all the squares together. One group realised that if they measured one side of the hall and then the other side, they could multiply those measurements together and find the area.
