Celebrating Pancake Day in Nursery and Reception!6 March 2025 (by Natalie (nski)) |
Pancake Day (also known as Shrove Tuesday) is always a special occasion, and this year was no exception. Our Nursery and Reception children had a wonderful time learning about the tradition and getting involved in making their own pancakes.
The day begun with a discussion about the significance of Pancake Day, including how it originated as a way of using all ingredients before the season of Lent, followed by the hand-on part of the activity: batter mixing and cooking and eating the pancakes.
The children helped measure and mix the ingredients, practising the small motor skills as they poured, stirred and mixed. Cracking the eggs was a fascinating process! It was then time for the adults to take over for the cooking and demonstrating how to flip over the pancakes safely, while the children watched in anticipation.
Once the pancakes were ready, everyone enjoyed them, chatting about their favourite toppings and discussing whether they'll be having more pancakes at home.
