Teachers love seeing progress being made!
Today, Year 6 wrote their own Greek Myths in Creative Writing. Year 6 had studied Ancient Greece in Year 5 so began the lesson by recalling some key facts about the Ancient Greeks, including what they remembered about Greek Myths. After some creative thinking in small groups, Y6 planned an original myth exploring why certain things like storms, oceans or seasons exist. When they wrote up their myth, they tried extremely hard to apply what they have been learning about in English lessons. Many children used metaphors and personification as descriptive techniques, used a relative clause to add extra information, inserted dashes or brackets where appropriate, wrote in clear paragraphs thinking about paragraph openers to move the myth along and many more Upper Key Stage 2 compositional features. It can be difficult to apply what you have learned when you are very excited and motivated by the writing task however, Year 6 focused on ensuring the quality of their writing was of a very high standard. The results were extremely impressive. We thought it would be nice for some of the children to visit their teacher from last year to showcase their writing progress. Their teachers from last year were delighted to welcome the Y6 visitors and were very proud of their writing progress. Well done Y6!
