The children made their first big step toward learning to read and write.
In Reception, the children have daily phonics lessons, using the Read Write Inc programme. They are taught one sound a day and continuously review the previously taught sounds. Once they know the first 5 sounds, the children learn to blend them and read simple CVC (consonant-vowel-consonant) words. They work in groups, taking turns practising the correct letter formation with a teacher.
