Fantastic Writing Year 5!20 September 2024 (by Katherine Gillard (kgillard)) |
Today, Year 5 pupils were developing their knowledge about composition to get better at the big idea of writing.
Inspired by the book 'Stig of the Dump', Year 5 pupils were presented with a piece of text that described Barney's visit to the chalk pit where he had his first encounter with 'Stig'. The Year 5 pupils noticed that all the sentences were made up of a main clauses and often lacked detail. (The person who had wrote this text had been in a rush!) So, the Year 5 pupils thought about how they could extend the sentences in the text to add more detail. They thought about using subordinating and coordinating conjunctions, adverbial phrases and adverbs as an opportunity to insert more information for the reader. By the end of the lesson, they had up-levelled the original piece of writing which made the text far more interesting to read. Lots of Year 5 pupils went to read aloud their writing to other members of staff because their teachers were really proud of what they had achieved. Well done Year 5!
