Saving the World one Tote Bag at a time...28 March 2024 (by Sarah Blaikie (sblaikie)) |
Over the last week, Year 3 have been designing and creating their own Tote Bags. We started by learning the history of the Tote Bag and interrogating what it is and what it is used for. We looked at a variety of bags and compared their uses and styles, even taking one apart to see how it was made.
We thought about our own design process and brief: create a sturdy Tote Bag that appeals to other children much like ourselves. Before coming up with our own designs, we practiced stitching methods we have used before and learned new techniques, as well as trying many methods for decorating fabric, including painting, applique and sewing.
Our making sessions were much harder than we imagined they would be, especially when it cam to the mechanics of the handles! But we showed a lot of imagination and perseverance in our project and are very proud of the outcome.
