At the start of the week, Year 6 were given the following design brief: To design and make an aerial tramway to transport tourists up a world heritage mountain site. The children found themselves back in South America- in Brazil. The children had studied South America in Y5 and they resumed their conversation about the tourism industry. They were introduced to the designer, Augusto Ferreira Ramos had designed the original Sugar Loaf Mountain aerial tramway in 1912. His design and ambition, combined with the children's knowledge learnt about pulley mechanisms inspired them to create their own aerial tramway. Today, they were at the final stage of the design process. They showed resilience and determination in abundance as they tweaked their designs thinking about how to improve their designs. This meant at times they had to 'break' their design, think again, make again and repeat the process if it didn't quite work they way they wanted it to! The end results were great! It was a fun (and challenging!) design brief Well done Year 6! What a wonderful achievement for the end of term.
