Last week, Year 6 learned about symphonic poems - symphonies based on a story or poem - in Music. We listened to Hannah Kendall's symphonic poem based on Lemn Sissay's 'Spark Catchers' which we studied in Literacy. We loved how she used crescendos and spasms of sound to create the effect of sparks in the matchstick factory. We learned that she starts composing by creating a graphic score so we had a go at creating our own for one line of the poem and adding sound effects with percussion instruments.
