Reception's clay sculptures inspired by Pablo Piccaso's art.

8 May 2024 (by Natalie Reception (nski))

Pablo Picasso is one of the world's most recognizable artists, but he was more than just a painter; Picasso was a sculptor and an animal lover too. Inspired by his artwork and his love of pigeons and doves, the children in Reception used clay to create their bird sculptures.

They started the workshop by exploring the clay - rolling, squeezing, and pinching it. They listened carefully to instructions and used a plush bird toy as inspiration. A few pigeons flying by were used as inspiration too!  The children discussed the best way to shape the clay into a bird and used their small motor skills to form balls of clay, which they shaped in their desired way. They used water when the clay was drying out and used clay tools to add interesting patterns to the clay birds.

With plenty of clay left, the children are already planning their next animal sculpture!
